workshops

Learn how to spin, crochet, knit, service a spinning wheel,
drop spindle, weave, chaos dye, do it your own way, make rope,
needle felt, and practice an alternative form of meditation and self healing through fibre feeling.......with lots of yarns along the way.
Spunoutpost Studio is located under a house in Graceville, and is available for events, workshops, exhibitions and anything else to do with yarns.
For a list of upcoming workshops, please check out the calendar below.......

Invite me along  to your home, school, camp, womens or mens group, circle of friends, festival, team building event, party, or just about anywhere, keeping in mind I'm based in Brisbane, Australia at the moment.

And I'll initiate you into the deep mysteries and metaphors, majicks and yarns of spinning and all its attendant fibre arts.

Stories about the ancient lineages of spinning and its differing histories, spiritual metaphors, practical applications and inspirations.

Be part of the Bespoke Movement, Slow Fashion, Recycling and Reusing, and the Buy Local concept.

Spinning and making your own way, is like the Organic and Permaculture movements, as opposed to the Monsanto and GMO of factory made yarns and products that are a result of factory farmed animals.....

Or alternatively, you could......

Let's be honest.....

This isn't going to be anything like a crochet lesson that you'd get at the local craft shop, or a spinning course that you'd do through a Spinners and Weavers Guild.  It's not going to be strictly structured, and we may not even cover half of the subjects listed above.  It will depend on yours or the groups interest and desires, and in allowing Self Organisation and the Natural Flow

of events to take their course.

You will hear lots of yarns and indepth answers to anything you ask.  And I'll bring along a host of creations, books, and things to interest and inspire.  I'll do my best to help empower you to find your own way into your own fibre fantasies and realities.

I'm also happy to turn up with the Pentasensual Experience

So called because it stimulates all 5 senses, this is an Interactive Installation where you're invited to play, pose, touch and feel everything!  The roots and branches that are all moveable, and the flowers that open and close.  As well as the Pusses that perch in the Pussandree, and the others that come along in a suitcase.
I made this kooky Puss Hand Tree creature, or Pussandree, and I'm not quite sure where it came from. I like to think it's the result of an alchemical process and the collaboration between me and Fibre.

It's a creation that is wire and wool wrapped over wood, and has arms and hands for branches, on which the Pusses can perch.  And the pusses are a variety of hand puppets and hats that are variously named Pentapusses, or Sextapusses, or Septapusses, or Octopusses, or Nonnapusses, or Icosipusses........

The Pentasensual Experience can either happen in one day, over a 5 day period, or however long you'd like.....

And in discussing and jamming about the five senses and how they're impacted on by all these wild and woolly creations, we cover the history of spinning and making, the Makers or Bespoke movement, Slow Fashion, Locavore food and Buying Local in general, Handmade clothing, Humanimal smells and scents, Spinning as Self Help and Therapy, and also as Meditation.

You'll be invited to feel the energy that's gone into it....

And you'll be literally feeling my meditation and self healing

As I explain to you how everything is energy that remembers where it's been, and how you're actually feeling the emotions I feel as I spin and meditate, as well as those of the animal it came from.

And explain all the ways that you can practice your own form of meditation and therapy, all at the same time as creating a useful, practical, and beautiful yarn......

But I'd also be happy to be legitimately hired.....

By Councils, Festivals and local groups around the country, to come and do some Community Capacity Building, and contact local Musicians, Locavores, Mental Health advocates, Fibre Artists, and other interested locals, to take a day (or more) to explore all our senses, and how we can best support, appreciate and encourage them to evolve.

I'm a great believer of the Gifting Economy

Which means that I know that in line with the Law of the Equal and Opposite Reaction.......when I give I'm bound to receive, even if I don't know where it will come from.

I trust you with the process of giving back to me by donation, and also know that it's likely someone somewhere will want to buy a book or skein of wool or something I've woven.

Just contact me in the email form below.....
